Either since birth (congenital) or after birth by using contaminated foods or leading unhealthy lifestyle continuously for long time leads to improper flow of Vata for long time. This Vata Dosha increases and stays in blood and now this increased Vata in blood goes in joints, stays there and makes obstructions (blockage) in the pathway of air (vat) resulting pain and inflammation in joints. Primarily it effects to small joints of hands and feet and afterwards all joints of the whole body.
Gout is developed due to faulty metabolism of a protein named Purin. An additional and unnecessarily required uric acid in form of sodium biurate deposits under joints and cartilages nerves, tendons, kidney and inner wall of arteries causing Arteriosclerosis and hypertension.
Presence of TOPHI due to collection of sodium biurate in the cartilages of external ear is its main symptom. This collection of uric acid expels out to rupture the skin after an interval or long time. Almost there develop wounds in skin (mostly in the skin of feet) of those healing is very difficult.
Kinds of gout:-
1- Superficial or chronic gout – If Vata is surrounded by or pathways of air ( vat) are obstructed( blocked) by seven dhatus and there types of mal (stool, urine and sweat) or found interruption in the natural movement of the air , it results superficial ailment of skin and muscle like dermatitis, burning sensation, pain, pricking sensation, cramps, inflammation and redness of skin. Treatments – Panchkarma, hot fomentation.
2- Deep or acute – Due to loss of seven dhatus, Pitt or Kapha or due to get opportunity of a wide and open space of air (Vata) for wandering here to there freely. This air effects joints, bones, bone marrow and develops ailments like acute burning sensation, inflammation, pain, stiffness, deformity of joints and bones. Treatment- laxatives, enema, castor oil, cows ghee.
Symptoms of gout:-
1- In primary stage- Excessive sweating, colour of skin turned into blackish, burning sensation and pain in joints, excessive pain after trauma.
2- Frequencies of the above said symptoms increases in form of sensation loss, burning, heaviness, pain, irritation, blackened skin, red spots, flexion in small joints of fingers, inflammation of joints etc.
3- In excess of Vata – arteriosclerosis, pain, cramps, stiffness, loss of sensation, deformity of joints like flexion of fingers.
4- In excess of blood dosha- reddish and inflammation, pain, pricking sensation, itching, watery discharge.
5- In excess of Pitt dosha- burning sensation, thirst, unconsciousness tenderness, inflammation, pain, reddish and excessive hot nature of joints.
6- In excess of Kapha dosha- Wetly body, inflammation, prickly sensation, itching, presence of secretion.
Food items advantageous for the patient of gout:-
Barley, unpolished rice, wheat, gram, mong, cow-milk, buffalo - milk, goat-milk, chicken, green leafy vegetables and oil of castor, white sandal, fern, and coniferous.
Food items injurious for the patients of gout:-
Salty, sour and alkaline food items, radish, fish, curd, any type of intoxicating substance (alchohol, tobacco etc), pea, beans, and any other item that aggravates Vata Dosha in body.
Apart from these food items, patient of gout should avoid any strenuous exercise, staying awake in the night and sleeping in the day time.
